How to Make the Commitment to Living a Balanced Life

Review your lifestyle and figure out where you can make changes.

It’s important to make sure your goals are attainable for your lifestyle. Are you burned out from working too much? Do you feel distant from your friends and family? Are you happy with your weight or do you need more sleep? These are all things to assess in our lives. If you know your diet isn’t what it could be or you need to make more of an effort with friends and family, choose these things to start working on.

Determine what is realistic and what isn't.

It’s not always possible to change every aspect of your life. That’s why assessing your life and recognizing where the holes are is crucial to choosing what steps to take to create that balance. Base your changes on what is possible with the lifestyle you live. If you can’t cut back on work, really utilize the days you do have off to make you happy and bring you balance. If you want to get in the gym, carve an extra hour out early in the morning. If you want to change your diet, dedicate one day a week to meal prep your meals. Each small step you take will create a huge improvement overall, just cater them to your lifestyle.

Set attainable goals.

Set small milestones that keep your motivation going. There’s a saying that it takes 21 days to build a habit. Things don’t just catch on overnight. So don’t just set one huge goal and hope to get to it eventually. Start with setting a one-week goal, a two-week goal, a one-month goal and so on. Eventually these habits will become a lifestyle that brings you balance and you won’t want to go back to how things were.

Reassess as needed.

If you have made changes and something doesn’t seem to be working, it’s important to reassess your changes set different goals. Sometimes we might need to tweak our goals or set different ones. It’s possible to change something and not feel like it’s working, or that you’re balanced. It might be the wrong goal. Remember that life is a journey, not a race. There is no shortcut to happiness. Take your time in figuring out who you are and what makes you happy.
